Description
MTL5523: Safe Area to Hazardous Area Interface
The MTL5523 interface lets you control hazardous area devices from a safe area. Use a simple switch or logic signal to safely operate solenoids and other loads. It features built-in line fault detection (LFD) for safety. If a wire breaks or shorts, the module instantly signals the fault.

How To Connect
- 1. Connect your safe-area control signal (switch or logic) to the control input terminals.
- 2. Wire your hazardous-area load (like a solenoid) to the output terminals.
- 3. Apply 24V power to the unit.
- 4. The green light means power is on. The yellow light shows the output is active. A red light means a wire fault.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What can I control with the MTL5523?
- A: You can control solenoids and other on/off devices in hazardous areas.
- Q: Can I use a computer to control it?
- A: Yes. A logic signal from a PLC or computer can easily turn the output on and off.
- Q: What does the red LED mean?
- A: The red LED lights up if there is a broken wire or a short circuit in your field wiring.
- Q: Does it work with all types of switches?
- A: Yes, it works with standard dry contact switches and open-collector transistors.
- Q: Can I add earth fault detection?
- A: Yes, you can add an optional MTL4220 module to terminal 3 for earth leakage detection.
