Description
Product Introduction
High-Density TMR Analog Input for Large Safety Systems
The Triconex 3704E is a Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) analog input module. It gives you 64 single-ended input points in one slot. This high density saves space in your Tricon chassis. The module uses three independent channels per input point. A mid-value selection algorithm picks the correct data each scan. The system stays safe even with one or two faulty channels.
Flexible Voltage & Current Support
You can use 0-5V or 0-10V sensors with +6% overrange. For current loops, add an external shunt resistor. Use a 250 Ω shunt for 5V range to measure 0-20mA. Use a 500 Ω shunt for 10V range to measure 0-20mA. This flexibility covers most field transmitters.
Built-In Diagnostics & Fault Tolerance
Each channel runs continuous self-checks. A failed diagnostic activates the Fault indicator on the module. The indicator points to a channel fault, not a module failure. The module keeps working properly with up to two bad channels. Hot-spare support lets you replace a faulty module online.

Professional FAQ (5 Questions)
Q1: Can the 3704E replace a standard 3700 series module?
Yes, but check your point count first. The 3704E gives 64 points. The 3700 gives 32 points. Also note the 3704E uses single-ended inputs, not differential.
Q2: How do I wire a 4-20mA transmitter to this module?
Add an external precision resistor across the input. Use 250 Ω for 0-5V range. Use 500 Ω for 0-10V range. The module then reads voltage proportional to current.
Q3: What happens to data during a hot-spare replacement?
The system continues normal operation. The remaining modules take over. No data loss occurs. The new module syncs automatically after insertion.
Q4 (Experience-based): We see noise on channels near high-power cables. Any fix?
Use shielded twisted-pair wiring. Keep field cables away from power cables. Ground the shield only at the ETP end. The module has basic filtering, but good wiring is critical for single-ended inputs.
Q5 (Selection Guide): Should I buy 3704E or use two 3700 modules?
Pick 3704E if you need 64 points in one slot and have single-ended sensors. Pick two 3700 modules if you need differential inputs or channel isolation. The 3704E saves chassis space but has less noise rejection.
