Description
Product Overview
The HIMA F8628X is a communication module for Profibus DP slave protocol. It enables ELOP II programming via Ethernet (from ELOP II V4.1). This module works with new CPUs: F8650X/F8652X (safe CPU for H51q/H41q systems). It also works with F8651X/F8653X (non-safe CPU for H51q/H41q systems). Older modules F8627 and F8628 remain available. Consequently, one bus handles both programming and fieldbus communication. Thus, you save hardware costs. Moreover, it supports open system architecture.

Works with HIMA F8651X and F8653X (non-safe CPUs)
Supports H41q and H51q system racks
Compatible with any Profibus DP master
For reference, older F8627 and F8628 still available
However, not compatible with F8627X or F8628X firmware directly
Diagnostic Capabilities
Built-in self-test on system power-up
Profibus DP bus monitoring via LED status
Error counters for communication failures
ELOP II shows live diagnostic data
Link integrity test for Ethernet port
Consequently, it logs bus timeouts and retries
Typical Applications
Connect HIMA safety controllers to Profibus DP networks
ELOP II programming in H41q or H51q systems
Factory automation with Profibus DP masters
Process control in oil and gas industries
Power generation plants using Profibus DP
Therefore, remote diagnostics via Ethernet
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I use F8628X with older HIMA CPUs?
No, you cannot. This module requires F8650X, F8652X, F8651X, or F8653X CPUs only.
What is the maximum Profibus DP cable length?
1200 meters at 93.75 kbps. However, at 12 Mbps, the maximum length is 100 meters.
Does F8628X support Profibus DP master mode?
No, it does not. This module works only as a Profibus DP slave device.
How do I set the Profibus slave address?
Use ELOP II software over Ethernet. Then assign an unused address between 1 and 125.
Can I program ELOP II through the Profibus port?
No, you cannot. ELOP II programming requires the RJ45 Ethernet port exclusively.
What happens if Profibus communication stops?
The module reports a bus fault via LED. Consequently, ELOP II logs the error for analysis.
Experience-based tip:
Always terminate both ends of your Profibus DP cable. Use standard Profibus terminators. Otherwise, you may see intermittent communication failures.
Which baud rate works best for long distances?
Use 93.75 kbps or 187.5 kbps for runs over 500 meters. For short distances, 12 Mbps works reliably.
My module shows no Profibus activity. What should I do?
First, check the 9-pole SUB-D wiring. Then verify the slave address. Finally, test with a known good device like 3300 XL 11 mm Proximity Probes if available.
