Description

MTL5082: Intrinsic Safety RTD Isolator Module

The MTL5082 is an easy-to-use, non-configurable isolator designed for use with 2-, 3-, or 4-wire RTD sensors in hazardous areas. It provides safe isolation and repeats the resistance signal to your monitoring system in the safe area. It is a perfect, simple alternative to a 4-20mA transmitter when a direct resistance output is needed. The module features open-circuit detection that drives the output upscale.

Technical Data

  • Brand: MTL
  • Model: MTL5082
  • Input Resistance Range: 10 to 400 Ω
  • Excitation Current: 200 μA
  • Output Signal: Repeats Input Resistance (10 to 400 Ω)
  • Open Circuit Fail-Safe: Upscale to 420 Ω
  • Response Time: < 1s (to within 4%)
  • Temperature Drift: ±10 mΩ/°C (typical)
  • Power Supply: 20-35V DC
  • Power Consumption: 45-65 mA

Installation Guide

  • Connect your RTD sensor to the hazardous-area terminals.
  • Terminal 1: RTD Input -ve
  • Terminal 3: RTD Input +ve
  • Terminal 4: 3-wire RTD Input -ve (compensation)
  • Terminal 5: 4-wire RTD Input +ve (sense)

Connect your monitoring instrument to the safe-area output terminals (9, 10, 11, 12).

Apply power to terminals 13 (-ve) and 14 (+ve).

Use the switches on top to select the correct wiring mode (2, 3, or 4-wire) for your sensor.

Hazardous Area Certification: For use in Zone 0, IIC, T4 and Div 1, Group A areas.

Simple Apparatus: Terminals 1 & 3 meet the requirements for ‘simple apparatus’ (U ≤ 1.5V, I ≤ 0.1A, P ≤ 25mW).
