Description
The SICK DL100-21AA2212 measures distance up to 100 meters. It uses a red laser on reflective tape. This sensor delivers very fine resolution from 0.1 mm upward. Response time is only 2 ms. The device connects via PROFINET network. It suits high-speed positioning and crane control.

What reflective tape do I need for 100m range?
Use SICK diamond grade reflective tape. Standard white tape gives shorter range.
Can I measure to any surface without tape?
No. This model needs a reflector for 100m range. Without tape, range drops significantly.
Why does my reading jump randomly?
Check for strong ambient light or dirty window. Also verify target is larger than laser spot size.
What is the smallest object I can detect?
At 10m distance, spot size is 5 + (2×10) = 25mm diameter. Target must be larger than this.
How do I set resolution to 0.1mm?
Use PROFINET parameter or display menu. Higher resolution increases output stability time slightly.
My sensor shows “damping value exceeded”. What does that mean?
The window is dirty or internal laser is aging. Clean the PMMA window first. If warning stays, plan replacement.
Can I use this outdoors in rain or snow?
Yes, IP65 protects against water jets. However, heavy rain may block laser beam temporarily.
What is the difference between response time and cycle time?
Response time (2ms) is when output changes after target moves. Cycle time (1ms) is how often it measures internally.

Follow these steps to pick the right SICK Dx100 sensor.
Choose your measurement range
