What Is the Triconex 3481?
The Triconex 3481 Analog Output Module is a TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) module. It has three isolated electronic sets called channels. Each channel takes data from its own MP. Then voter circuitry picks one channel to drive the output. Special circuits shunt the other channels. This stops them from affecting the output. The module runs ongoing diagnostics for every channel. If one channel fails, the Fault LED turns on. This also triggers the system alarm. The Fault LED shows a channel fault, not a full module failure. The Triconex 3481 works correctly with one fault. It may even work with multiple faults. The module supports a hot-spare unit. A mechanical key prevents wrong installation in the baseplate.

Installation Guide

First, check the loop power. It should be 24 VDC nominal. Then check the load resistance. For points 1-2, 300 ohm needs 16 VDC. Also verify your wiring to the baseplate terminals.
How do I know if my module needs replacement?
If the Fault LED stays on after power cycling, one channel has failed. The module still works. But order a replacement soon. Use a hot-spare to swap it online.
Can I use this module with a 2-wire HART transmitter?
Yes. Use baseplate 2483 or 2483A. The module provides loop power. Connect the HART transmitter to the output terminals. The asset management software can then communicate.
What is forced-switch diagnostic (FSD)?
FSD is a built-in test. It forces each output switch to turn on and off briefly. This checks if the switch works. The test happens automatically. You will not see any output change.
The switch time says 1 ms typical. What does this mean?
When one channel fails, the module switches to a good channel. This takes about 1 millisecond. Your process will not notice the switch. Maximum time is 3 ms.
