What This Module Does
This module sends discrete outputs from the Modicon Quantum control to the prime mover. Each output channel works independently based on CPU commands.
The module has no potentiometers. As a result, it never needs calibration. You can swap a broken unit with another 5464-654 without any changes to your setup.
This module supports two different FTM I/O configurations.
Installation Guide
Slide the module into card guides inside the control chassis
Then connect it to the motherboard
Use two screws (top and bottom of front panel) to lock it in place
Two handles help remove the module
Push the handles outward
The module moves back slightly
This action disengages the boards from motherboard connectors
Wiring & Power Requirements
This module receives digital data from the CPU. It then creates relay driver signals. Please note these signals are not isolated.
The module must connect to one or more Woodward Relay Modules. Those relays then connect to your field wiring.
Important power note: This module does NOT provide 24 Vdc power. The relays need a separate 24 Vdc power source. You can use:
A section of a multi-output Main Power Supply
A single-output Main Power Supply (as long as enough current is available)
Cable setup:
One low density cable links the module to a relay module
Then a second low density cable daisy chains to another module
Typical Applications
– Gas turbine control systems – Engine prime mover management – Industrial generator sets – Marine propulsion controls

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What happens if the CPU loses communication?
All outputs turn off automatically. This safety feature prevents unwanted actions.
Q2: Can I use this module without a Woodward Relay Module?
No. The module only produces relay driver signals. You must connect it to a Woodward Relay Module for field wiring.
Q3 (Experience-based): My red fault light is on. What should I check first?
First, check the connection to the motherboard. Second, verify the CPU is sending data. Third, test with a known working 5464-654 module.
Q4 (Selection guide): This module or a newer Woodward model – which to buy?
Choose this 5464-654 if you need 32 channels and 5 ms speed. It works with existing Woodward Relay Modules. For new systems, check compatibility first. We recommend this module for drop-in replacement only.
Q5: How do I know if my power supply is sufficient?
Calculate total current for all connected relays. Then add 20% safety margin. Use a multi-output supply if currents are high.
