Ports & Connectivity
– CAN bus ports – Real-Time Network (RTN) port – Ethernet ports – Multiple serial ports – USB interfaces – Expansion chassis required with Remote RTN module
Front Panel LEDs (10 Indicators)
– TX/RX – Data transmit and receive – LINK – Network connection status – STANDBY – Standby mode active – SYSCON – System controller active – RUN – Processor running normally – IOLOCK – I/O lock condition (red light) – LVCC – Low voltage status – WATCHDOG – Watchdog timer status – CAN #1, #2 – CAN bus activity – FAULT – CPU fault indicator (red flashing)
How to Use the LEDs for Diagnosis
The FAULT LED turns red and flashes for a CPU problem. At the same time, the IOLOCK LED also lights up red. This pair means there is an I/O lock condition inside the VMEbus or the CPU itself. Check these lights first when the system stops working.
Installation Notes
This board is a CPU-based system. You must use it with an expansion chassis. That chassis needs a Remote RTN module. Mount the module in a dry panel with good airflow. Keep the operating temperature between 0 and +55°C. Do not use above 4000 meters altitude.
Operating Systems Support
– Windows Embedded Standard – Windows Embedded Compact – Linux
Industrial Protocols Supported
– Modbus – CANbus – PROFIBUS
Compatibility Information
The Woodward 5503-335 works with Modicon Quantum systems when using proper gateway settings. It also connects to any VMEbus backplane. The module requires a Remote RTN module in the expansion chassis.
Certifications & Protection
– IP20 Rating: Protects against fingers and small objects – Lloyd’s Register: Passed humidity cycling test – Shock Resistant: Designed for harsh industrial use – Vibration Resistant: Suitable for turbine environments
Typical Applications
– Gas turbine control systems – Power generation plants – Marine propulsion controls – Industrial automation lines – Remote compressor stations
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: Is the Woodward 5503-335 still in production?
A: No. According to manual 26166V1, this CPU is obsolete. The 26166V3 manual also confirms this status. Buy remaining stock while available.
Q2: Can I use this module without an expansion chassis?
A: No. The 5503-335 requires an expansion chassis with a Remote RTN module. The CPU board will not work alone.
Q3: What do the FAULT and IOLOCK LEDs mean together?
A: Both red lights mean an I/O lock condition inside the VMEbus or CPU. First, try a full power cycle. Then check all backplane connections.
Q4: What is the real difference between 64MB flash and 128MB RAM?
A: Flash memory stores your program and settings. RAM handles active calculations. More RAM helps complex turbine logic run smoother.
Q5 (选购指导): Should I buy this 5503-335 for a new project?
A: No. For new designs, pick a current Woodward CPU. For existing turbines, buy this as a spare. We offer a 12-month warranty on all used units.
Selection Guide (Buying Advice)
– Buy the 5503-335 only for existing MicroNet 5200 systems. – Order a spare if your turbine runs 24/7. Downtime costs more than the module. – Check your operating temperature. This unit works from 0 to +55°C only. – For cold climates below 0°C, look for the extended temperature version. – Use thermal paste on the CPU heatsink for hot panels above 50°C.
