Description
Product Overview
The Tricon 3636R is a Relay Output (RO) Module for non-critical points. First, it works where solid-state switches are not compatible. For example, it connects easily to annunciator panels. Therefore, this module receives signals from three main processors. After that, it votes on the three signal sets. As a result, the voted data drives 32 individual relays. In addition, each output has a loopback circuit. Consequently, this circuit checks relay operation without a load. Moreover, ongoing diagnostics test module status. Thus, a fault activates the Fault indicator and chassis alarm. Finally, the module comes with Normally Open (NO) contacts. It also supports hot-spare modules. However, you need a separate External Termination Panel (ETP) with a cable to the Tricon backplane.

Fuses: 1 per output, 2.5A fast-acting
Output Contact: Normally Open
Color Code: Silver Blue
Frequency Response: DC only, no AC signal filtering
Sensitivity: 5 VDC logic threshold
Linearity: Not applicable for digital outputs
Resolution: On/Off per relay
Temperature Range: -25°C to +70°C during operation
Environmental Tolerance: Resists vibration and humidity (5-95% non-condensing)
Noise Immunity: 1500 VDC isolation ensures high common-mode rejection
Diagnostic Features
First, a loopback circuit verifies each relay without a load
Second, ongoing self-diagnostics test operational status
In addition, three indicators per point show Output Status, PASS, FAULT, or ACTIVE
Similarly, a Module Status indicator shows PASS or FAULT
As a result, any diagnostic failure triggers the Fault indicator
Finally, that fault activates the chassis alarm
Installation Steps
First, mount the 3636R into a Tricon chassis
Then, use a separate External Termination Panel (ETP)
After that, connect the ETP via a cable to the Tricon backplane
Next, insert a 2.5A fast-acting fuse for each output
Then, wire loads to Normally Open (NO) contacts
Finally, for hot-spare configuration, install two modules side by side
Debugging & Maintenance Ease
First, the loopback test runs without connecting any load
Therefore, you can test offline easily
In addition, the Fault indicator shows the exact failed module
Moreover, hot-spare support allows replacement without system shutdown
As a result, no special tools are needed for module swap
Finally, the clear color code (Silver Blue) prevents wrong insertion
Compatibility Details
First, it is compatible with Modicon Quantum systems via the backplane
However, it requires a Tricon chassis (not included)
In addition, it works with all standard External Termination Panels
Similarly, it supports hot-spare redundancy with two 3636R modules
Nevertheless, it is not compatible with high-side solid-state output switches
Certifications & Standards
First, point isolation is 1500 VDC for basic models
Second, the 3636T variant offers 2500 VDC isolation
In addition, this module is manufactured for industrial control systems
Finally, it meets all Tricon backplane electrical standards
Typical Applications
First, interfacing with annunciator panels
Second, driving non-critical field devices
Third, alarm signaling in turbine controls

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can I use the 3636R for safety-critical points?
A: No. This is a non-triplicated module for non-critical points only.
Q: Does the module work without a load attached?
A: Yes. The loopback circuit verifies relay operation independently.
Q: What happens when a diagnostic fails?
A: The Fault indicator turns on and triggers the chassis alarm.
Q: Can I replace it while the system runs?
A: Yes. The module supports hot-spare modules for live replacement.
Q: Is the External Termination Panel included?
A: No. You must order the ETP and cable separately.
Experience-Based FAQ
Q: We see intermittent faults in a vibrating environment. What is wrong?
A: First, check the 2.5A fast-acting fuse. Vibration can loosen fuses. Therefore, re-seat all 32 fuses. Then, use fuse holders with locking clips.
Q: The chassis alarm activates but all outputs work. Why?
A: First, run a loopback test without a load. The issue is often a single stuck relay. As a result, find the faulty point by watching the Output Status LED.
Q: Our old system used 3636T. Can we use 3636R as a direct replacement?
A: Yes, but first check your isolation requirement. 3636T has 2500 VDC. However, 3636R has 1500 VDC. For 2500 VDC, stay with 3636T.
Selection Guide
First, use 3636R for 1500 VDC isolation needs
Second, choose 3636T when you need 2500 VDC isolation
Third, select this module for annunciator panels and alarms
However, do not select it for SIL-rated safety loops (use triplicated modules)
In addition, buy the External Termination Panel at the same time
Similarly, order one spare 3636R for hot-spare redundancy
Finally, for fast-acting fuses, order part number 2.5A-FAST-3636 (10-pack)
