Product Description – Tricon 3636T Relay Output Module

Reliable switching for non-critical points
The model 3636T is a non-triplicated relay output module. It works with loads not compatible with high-side solid-state switches. For example, use it to connect annunciator panels.

Signal processing method
This module receives output signals from three main processor channels. Then it votes on the three signal sets. Finally, the voted data drives 32 individual relays.

Built-in safety and diagnostics
Each output has a loopback circuit. Consequently, it verifies relay operation without a load. Meanwhile, ongoing diagnostics check module health. If any diagnostic fails, the Fault indicator turns on. That action then activates the chassis alarm.

Easy integration
This module comes with normally open (NO) contacts. Additionally, it supports hot-spare modules. However, you will need a separate external termination panel (ETP) with a cable to the Tricon backplane.

Environmental Tolerance: Resists humidity, dust, and vibration per industrial standards

Noise Immunity: 1500 VDC isolation blocks common-mode interference

Installation Guide

First, mount the module in a Tricon chassis slot

Next, connect the ETP (external termination panel) to the backplane

Then, use the supplied cable interface between ETP and module

After that, wire loads to the normally open relay contacts

Also, install a 2.5A fast-acting fuse per output (provided)

Finally, insert the module as a hot-spare if needed and power on to check the PASS indicator

Debugging & Maintenance Convenience

The loopback circuit tests each relay without any load

A Fault indicator lights up for any internal failure

Moreover, the chassis alarm activates automatically on fault

Hot-spare support allows replacement without system stop

Additionally, you get easy visual checks with per-point output status LEDs

No special tools are needed for relay testing

Compatibility Notes

This module works with Modicon Quantum systems via proper backplane

It also requires a Tricon backplane and ETP

Furthermore, it supports hot-spare modules of the same model

It is compatible with annunciator panels and resistive loads

However, do not use it with high-side solid-state output switches

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Is the 3636T suitable for safety-critical points?
A1: No. This is a non-triplicated module. Use it only for non-critical points.

Q2: Can I replace a failed module without powering down?
A2: Yes. The module supports hot-spare. Insert a spare unit while the system runs.

Q3: Why does my module show a FAULT light but relays work?
A3: The FAULT light means internal diagnostics found an issue. Therefore, change the module soon even if relays seem fine.

Q4: What load types work best with this module?
A4: Resistive loads up to 2A at 155VAC/VDC. However, avoid large inductive loads without external suppression.

Q5: Do I need an external termination panel?
A5: Yes. You must use a separate ETP with a cable to the Tricon backplane.

Q6: My relay does not switch even with output command. What to check?
A6: First check the fuse (2.5A fast-acting). Then verify the load wiring and loopback status. Also confirm the module has the PASS indicator on.

Q7: Can I use this with 24V DC signals?
A7: Yes. The module works from 0 to 155 VDC, so 24V DC is fine.

Q8: How do I know if my existing chassis supports this module?
A8: Check if your chassis has a Tricon backplane and an available slot for a non-triplicated module. Additionally, you must have the matching ETP.

Q9: I see the ACTIVE light, but no output. What could be wrong?
A9: First, test the loopback circuit. If loopback passes, inspect the external wiring. Sometimes a blown fuse or a missing ground causes this issue.

Selection Guide

Do not choose the 3636T for: Safety-critical or triplicated applications. Loads above 2A or 155V. High-frequency switching. Systems without an external termination panel.

Spare planning tip: Keep one hot-spare module per chassis to reduce downtime. This simple step can save hours of system interruption.

Fuse advice: Always use 2.5A fast-acting fuses. Do not replace with a higher rating. Otherwise, you risk damaging the relay contacts.

Budget vs. need: If your budget allows only one module, order the 3636T plus one spare. For mission-critical non-critical points (like alarm panels), two spares are better.
