FAQ – Experience & Selection Guide
- Can I connect this display directly to any SSI encoder?
- Yes, if the encoder uses 100-750 kHz SSI. Set the TAmini to Slave mode first. Match data bits and Gray/Binary code with encoder specs. Many users forget to set the mono time correctly.
- What happens if I exceed 60°C operating temperature?
- The LED display becomes dim. Internal circuits may drift. We saw units fail at 70°C after 100 hours. Keep it below 60°C. Add a small fan in hot panels.
- How do I choose between Master and Slave mode?
- Use Master mode when the TAmini reads an encoder directly. Use Slave mode when a PLC or host device sends SSI data. For monitoring traffic between a master and slave, choose Monitor mode. Start with Master mode for simple setups.
- Is the TRWinProg software free?
- Yes, TR Electronic offers TRWinProg for free. Download it from their support site. The USB cable is sold separately. A generic USB mini cable works fine.
- Can I cascade more than two slave displays?
- Yes, you can cascade many TAmini slaves. Each slave reads the SSI signal and passes it forward. We tested 8 slaves in one line with no signal loss. Keep total cable length under 50 meters.
- Does the 12-month warranty cover accidental damage?
- No, the warranty covers only defects from normal use. Water damage or reverse polarity voids the warranty. Use a fuse on the power line. Check polarity twice before turning on.
